This guide is here to assist patrons in locating additional resources which may or may not be available in the Archives. Any sites which require paid membership to view content are not listed.

FamilySearch is an excellent tool for locating census and other related genealogical records. Try using their WWI or WWII  draft records database. Membership is required but free to the public.

Find A Grave is a global endeavor to record dates, biographical info, and burial sites for deceased loved ones. Keep in mind, content is volunteer generated and errors may occur.

Georgia Historic Newspapers. An initiative of the University System of Georgia, the Digital Library of GA features historical as well as recent newspapers from across the state. Begin by clicking on the map of the Georgia region you're interested in (North, Middle, etc.) and locate the titles listed by county. Here is a quick link  to the West Georgia region which contains early Upson newspapers.

Introduction to Courthouse Resources. Authored by David Paterson, this guide provides an in depth explanation of the various types of court records, specifically framed for conducting slave research. With numerous examples and detailed explanations, researchers will be able to learn what types of information can be extrapolated from records such as Wills, Inventories & Appraisements, Deeds, etc. and further, they will obtain an understanding of the different types of Georgia courts as well as their functions. 

*A note on the author* David Paterson has written several books on Upson County history and dedicated countless hours to researching the slave population represented here. His comprehensive database, Slaves & Slavemasters of Upson County, documents thousands of enslaved persons represented in local court records. This database is available to view by visiting the Archives. 

Sanborn Maps of Thomaston. Hosted by Galileo, Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps show a detailed view of downtown Thomaston between the years, 1885-1921. Original Sanborn maps of Thomaston for the years 1921 and 1930 are available to view in the Archives.
